Here are all the blocks connected with sashing and posts. It is 4 feet wide by 5 feet long, but I think I would like for it to be 6 feet long. I can either add 4 more blocks (they end up being about a foot once the sashing is put on), or add several borders with the fabrics I have already used in the quilt blocks. Any ideas from you guys would be appreciated. If I add 4 more blocks, do you have ideas for pictures?

This looks great the way it is, but you want longer. I might do the borders because they are easy and always look good, You can use more border top and bottom than at the sides if you are thinking it's wide enough (it's probably already wider than most beach towels?)
Another approach would be a row of pieced blocks - or two rows of smaller blocks - one top and one bottom as one of the borders. I'd be thinking something like snails trails, or ocean waves or storm at sea - that fits the seaside theme. If you did the smaller blocks, you'd still need to slip in a border top and bottom to separate that row from the applique and sashing.
Mind you, I haven't made a snails trails block, but you can color it blue with tan or white so it makes stylized waves -- and that would look cool! Here's a link (bottom of page) to someone who did several different color combinations. She didn't use tan sand, but you can see how it would be wave-y! http://www.synthcom.com/~val/Quilts/Vals_RRRR.html hope my hyperlink works...
I love all your ideas! I had thought about a pieced-block border, but hadn't thought about the "wave" idea. I like that. Your link did work and I learned a new block name. Although I had seen the pattern before, I didn't know the name of it until now.
I'll have to "google" "storm at sea" and "ocean waves" or look in my "traditional encyclopedia" of patterns. As always, Cheryl, you are an inspiration for creativity!
I have seen all the patterns you mention and think I will go with the snail's trail if it's not too hard to piece. I like the look, but haven't read how to make it yet. I think, first I will put a narrow contrasting border on to set the blocks off. Do you think, since the blocks are white, that the tan (to represent sand) would look out of place? I suppose I could make a couple different ones to see. If I didn't like the tan color, I could always use two different blues, or another blue/green combo in different intensities.
Yes, or blue and white would also convey the same idea - white foamy parts to the waves, or white sand. I think that will make a great border addition!
Yeppers! Sounds good. I'm just putting a darker green narrow (3/4 inch) border on tonight. Then I will start making waves!! :o)
