Shingles

This is what shingles looks like:  It looks and feels like a burn.  It doesn't itch like chicken pox, but it is very tender to the touch.....even clothes/sleeves irritate it.   It affects only one side of the body, so my right side is perfectly normal.  It is starting to crawl around to the back now.

Now you know why I wouldn't let Norris take me out to dinner for a while after his shingles set on - he didn't even go at least yours isn't on your face!

Yet.........LOL. It is crawling up my arm and around my back now. And there is a spot on my collar bone.

Sherrye! You have shingles? Oh my, I'm so sorry to hear that. I really really hope that it doesn't get too bad for you, b/c I think it's different for different people (right?). My grandfather got it summer a year ago and is still recovering from it (he's much older than you, though!). It was scary. Let me know how you're doing!!

Fran, I seem to have caught it early on, so the antiviral (and other) meds are working their magic. The normal recovery time is 3-5 weeks, but it can last for months or a year(s) in some people, depending on their immune systems.

There is a vaccine for it but you can't have it for a year after an episode. The reason I never got one was I thought I had never had chicken pox. Oh well, who knew. I'm doing fine!!
