Winter Projects

Besides going to the fitness center and trying to get back to healthy, I also have three appliqued quilts to do this year.  I'm very excited about all of them.  I SHOULD have four, but one family member wants to design her own and is not there yet, so later on that one.

The first one is a quilt made up of favorite childrens' book's characters for my daughter/teacher who is passionate about children reading and writing.  Each piece of the character is cut, fused, and then machine appliqued on to a 10.5 inch block.  There will eventually be 20 blocks with sashing/posts to tie it all together (that will be chosen later).  Hand embroidery will detail the tiny accents (french knots for buttons, outline stitching for "creases",  facial features, etc).  After assembly, it will be hand-quilted around all the characters, on the sashing/posts, and bound off in colors of her choosing.  Here is the first of 20 blocks.  If you are not familiar with children's stories, this is Trixie and Knuffle Bunny.

#1 - Trixie and Knuffle Bunny

I will be posting Mrs Wishy-Washy tonight or tomorrow.  I just have the handwork left on her.

The second quilt will be a beach blanket for my grand daughter with appliqued blocks of items such as flip-flops, seashells, beach balls, umbrellas, chairs, etc.

The third will be logos of my grandsons favorite college football teams. ( 20 blocks of those, too)

I am thankful to have these projects to keep me busy during the cold winter months.  If I finish just one of them, I will feel productive!

That's some elaborate applique you're talking about! It will be great fun to follow your progress on this and the other two (three?) quilts!
