Springtime blooms and a little planting

Spring has finally arrived after a winter that seemed to hang on too long.  Of course, once that happens, it is impossible to keep your hands clean during these perfect days for gardening.

Today was spent outside admiring nature's show...

Sweet Cherry

 Tart Pie Cherry

Flowering Quince

Apples

and planting a little extra for years to come.

 White creeping Thyme
Those who remember last year's plantings know that I added some knock-out roses in front of the years-old Juniper along the front of the house.  I had said I would be adding a ground cover or low growing in front of the roses this year.  I chose creeping thyme as a ground cover.  They had only 9 left so I put 5 on the long left side and 4 on the short right side.  I'm not sure how fast it grows, but I hope it will fill in so I don't have to weed or mulch in the distant future.

White creeping Thyme in front of the roses.

I had put pansies out back in February and they are still blooming while it's cool.

Purple Verbena is a new addition this year.
Lemon Scented Thyme was planted last year and has filled the washtub and lasted through the Winter!!  I fondle and smell it everytime I go by.  So refreshing.
Two determinate tomato plants added this year.  "Better Bush"
Strawberries are blooming.  I will be adding three more plants to the tub.

This is the little "herb tower" I saw on Pinterest (their's was much larger and regular pots).  I will put three herbs or three colorful flowering plants in here this week when I get back to the store for more plants.

So satisfying playing in the dirt!!
